How Do I Find Out If Someone That Has Died Had A Life Insurance Policy?
Posted May 27, 2009 – 10:18 pm in: structured settlements FAQMy best friends sister died recently and we suspect that someone in the family has a life insurance policy on her, but doesn’t want anyone to know about it. Is there any way we can find out if someone other than her husband had/has a policy on her?

there is a technical way to deal in with such cases. firstly, if your friend’s sister had taken a policy knowingly or unknowingly, there has to be a nominee in it which can only be-his husband, son/daughter/mother/father. so, only these people will be benefitted & even if someone else than above people demand for claim, insurance companies will act as a legal body to stop it and ask the first relative to appear.also, insurance companies do not pay death proceeds without investigation, so the chances are lesser. even after that, in case the claim is paid, it is illegal on part of the person receiving it and the company paying it, in such case, it can be dealt legally.
Not really. MIB provides a service to allow you to see if she had applied for a policy in the past 13 years, but that wouldn’t tell you who took out the policy.
She would have had to participate in the underwriting and signed the application so if someone did this without her knowledge then they committed fraud and will have to answer to the insurance company. If someone does have a legit policy on her then she cooperated and hopefully had a valid reason for that person to get the insurance on her.
The lawyer for the deceased should know. The insurance companies have some way of keeping track of deaths. Your friend could suggest to the lawyer that there may be such a policy somewhere.
