Do You Know Of Any Company Who Sells Life Insurance For Someone With A Felony?
Posted June 27, 2009 – 10:19 pm in: structured settlements FAQI know Allstate wont and I know Farmers wont. Its a Felony Drug charge. If you work for an Insurance company and you can sell Life insurance for someone with a Felony Drug charge please let me know the name of the company.

I called 2 of my companies. 1 (Americo) will on a case by case basis as long as they are not on probation for at least 1 year. The other (Shenandoah) will, & MAY rate (charge an additional fee) as long as they are no longer on probation. There is no specified time frame for the probation on the 2nd company. Both have a depending on crime clause, meaning it will depend on the nature of the conviction that could determin the coverage.

The issue is not that you have a felony. The issue is how long it’s been since you have used drugs. Typically the life insurance application will ask back 5 years. If you have used drugs within that time the premium will most likely be higher, or you may even be ineligible. Another issue is if you have been in treatment for drugs. Again, if you have been in treatment within 5 years, the premium will either be higher, or you may be ineligible. But just the fact that you have a felony doesn’t make a difference.

There are a few companies that will issue it with a so called guaranteed rate but it is expensive. Try Presidential Graded Whole Life or Gerber if the person is over 50.
Most carriers will ask in the past 5 years if the insured has had a felony. All carriers are a little different and some ask for the past 10 years or ever.
Get as much group insurance as you can if applicable.
