Can My Mother Get A Life Insurance Policy On Me Without My Permission?

Posted February 7, 2010 – 4:24 pm in: structured settlements FAQ

She said she was gonna open a policy for my life through her job. We live in Michigan and I am over 21.

Some companies do not require the insured to sign a single thing; only the owner does which is pretty strange. So yes she could. Life insurance is a good thing to have and you don’t have to worry about premium payments – she does :)

Yes, but only limited death benefit amounts. It would most likely be a small rider for you on her life insurance policy. If she wanted anything more on you, you would have to agree, sign documents, and take a mini medical exam.

Yes, if you are her dependent and on her health insurance through work.
But it’s only for $5,000, and if she ever quits/leaves her job, she loses the policy. That much won’t even bury you.

Yes she can, but I’m not sure why her work would allow a policy on someone who is not a dependent. You are over 21! Unless you have some disability. People often get policies on family members.
